Dubai Visa Overstay: Fines, Rules & What to Do
Overstayed, or worried your Dubai tourist visa is about to expire? Understand how overstay fines currently work, how to check your status, and what steps you can take before it becomes a bigger problem.
What Happens If I Overstay My Dubai Tourist Visa?
If you remain in the UAE after your permitted stay has expired, you become liable for a daily overstay fine that starts accruing immediately, with no grace period. Since 11 February 2026, the UAE applies one unified rate of AED 50 per day across all visa categories, including Dubai tourist and visit visas.
If the overstay runs beyond 30 days, an additional one-off exit permit ("out-pass") is also required before you can legally leave the country. The exact amount owed should always be confirmed on the official GDRFA Dubai or ICP portal, since fines are calculated automatically and can be verified in real time.
Dubai Visa Overstay Fine
This flat rate replaced the previous patchwork of fine structures that used to differ between GDRFA Dubai and the federal ICP system. Always confirm the amount applicable to your specific visa on the official portal before making a payment.
Fine figures reflect the unified rate announced by ICP and GDRFA Dubai on 11 February 2026 and are provided for general information only. Always check the current fine for your specific visa on the official fines inquiry service before travelling to pay.
How Is Dubai Visa Overstay Calculated?
The exact date your permitted stay ends should be checked against your specific visa and entry stamp — it is not always the same as the visa issue date. Fines accrue automatically from the first day after that date, since the former grace period has been removed.
Dubai Visa Overstay Fine Examples
Examples are based on the current unified GDRFA Dubai / ICP tourist-visa rate and exclude any exit-permit fee, which only applies once an overstay exceeds 30 days and is charged separately rather than per day.
Is There a Grace Period After a Dubai Tourist Visa Expires?
No. Do not assume you automatically receive extra days after your tourist visa or permitted stay expires. The previous grace period for tourist and visit visas has been removed under the current UAE-wide rules, and fines can begin accruing from the day after expiry. Check your specific visa status before remaining in the UAE past your permitted stay.
Overstay Rules by Dubai Visa Type
30-Day Dubai Visa
Consequences depend on the actual permitted stay shown on your visa and entry record. Once that period ends, remaining in the UAE may result in overstay fines at the current unified rate.

The same principle applies. Check the final permitted day on your 60-day visa and entry stamp — overstay fines apply the same way once that date passes.

Once the permitted stay has ended, remaining in the UAE may result in overstay fines. Check your visa and entry information to confirm the final permitted stay.

Entry validity and permitted stay are different things. Multiple-entry status does not automatically mean you can remain in the UAE indefinitely — you must still follow the permitted stay applicable to your visa.

If your visa or permitted stay is approaching its end, check whether an extension is available for your specific visa before the permitted stay expires. Not every tourist visa is eligible for extension, so confirm your options early rather than assuming one will be approved.

How Can I Check My Dubai Visa Overstay Fine?
Fines Inquiry Service
GDRFA Dubai provides an official Fines Inquiry Service. Information typically requested may include your passport number, nationality and file information.
Check Official Fine ServiceCan I Leave Dubai With an Unpaid Overstay Fine?
Do not assume you can simply leave without resolving an outstanding overstay fine. Check the applicable fine and departure requirements for your specific visa before travelling to the airport — an overstay beyond 30 days also requires a separate exit permit.
Check Your FineWhat If I Cannot Afford the Overstay Fine?
GDRFA Dubai and the federal ICP each offer a service for requesting a reduction or waiver of certain penalties in qualifying circumstances, such as a documented medical emergency or a verified travel disruption. Approval is not automatic and is assessed case by case — submitting a request does not guarantee it will be granted.
Can a Dubai Visa Overstay Affect Future UAE Travel?
An overstay is a violation of the applicable stay conditions and may affect future immigration matters depending on the circumstances, such as how long the overstay lasted. It does not automatically mean a lifetime UAE travel ban. Resolve outstanding fines or immigration issues before any future travel.
